WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Tale on Fire offers workshops to schools and colleges, working with drama students from age 15 through to adults. Our workshops run parallel to GCSE, A/S Level and BA Drama, Theatre Studies and Performing Art courses and are lead by our Artistic Director. The workshops are all individually tailored to the size and ability of the students.

Workshops offered include:

Introduction to Physical Theatre

This workshop aims to give students a basic knowledge and understanding of the phrase Physical Theatre. Depending on the academic level, a history of the genre, along with video material is shown. Following this, student’s work in pairs and larger groups to create their own work based on the examples they have been given and are then given a chance to experiment putting physical theatre around an existing piece of text.

By the end of the session students will have basic knowledge of physical theatre: what it means, how to use it, and how to create it. This workshop has proved particularly successful with A Level Performing Arts students who are encouraged to integrate music, dance and drama in their exam performances.

Devised and Collaborative Theatre

This workshop aims to give students a chance to explore the following creative tools practically; communicating ideas using a fuller range of descriptive tools, sharing ideas together and creating ideas over which the whole group has ownership, understanding the importance of research in a practical way and bringing objects into the rehearsal room to enhance the creative process. The basic rehearsal structure of "Invent. Invest. Believe." is also discussed and employed as an effective method of organizing devising time.

By the end of the session students should be able to explain their ideas effectively to their peers, understand how to create an aesthetic framework for their piece, understand how to research an idea to provide depth to their work and structure their working time during the devising process effectively. The workshop takes into account that students are asked to create work from several types of starting points, both text based and non text based material.

Testimonials to Tale on Fire workshops

Thank you so much for giving our Year 11 GCSE pupils the benefit of your workshop on devising techniques. They thoroughly enjoyed the exercise and have been able to use your useful ideas to help them prepare for their Paper 2 exam. I too found it most engaging and interesting and would love you to become a regular annual visitor.
